‘After Information’ imagines a parallel world that exists in a biotechnological era. The project focuses on two fictional communities and the interaction between their bodies and current environmental and ideological aspects of our world.
In both scenarios, the microbiome is manipulated to host bacteria such as Marinobacter Hydrocarbonoclasticus and Synechococcus Elongatus, which are able to synthesise pollutants and sweat into nutrients. Hairs and sweat glands are bioengineered to become digestive systems that can absorb these nutrients directly into the bloodstream.
#01 – The Infumis, can fuction as a cautionary narrative, challenging our understanding of the atmosphere. The community live beneath large traffic intersections and have developed an alternative means to dealing with what we consider pollutants. In this world, intersections effectively become farms where air and water pollutants are harvested to nourish the body.
#02 – The Exudaters are a fictional community descendants by the utopian societies that emerged in the 19th century in Essex. Based on libertarian principles, the community explores the idea of detachment. their aim is to escape from established powers and systems. Their ultimate goal is to reach a state of complete self-sufficiency.
